Inspired by thinkers such as Bertrand Russell, Rabindranath Tagore, Mahatma Gandhi & Paulo Freire. We aim to create an environment where children develop respect for life, think independently, and connect learning to their own experiences. Our focus is to provide a holistic, all-round education in a non-competitive and nurturing environment. We follow a non-formal approach that allows children to learn without undue pressure, while preparing them for future pathways through our SNS Plus programme when needed. We are mindful of nurturing emotional connection, sensitivity, and respect for others and the natural world. We also strive to create an inclusive space where every child feels heard and valued. Here, children engage with diverse perspectives, build meaningful relationships, and reflect not only on what they learn, but also on why they learn.
JULIA MATTHEW
Shanti Niketan School in Goa is a unique educational initiative led by Julia Matthew,Managing Director of the El Shaddai Charitable Trust. The school was born out of a deep desire to support children who are homeless, orphaned, or from underprivileged backgrounds. Since stepping into active service in 2000, Julia has dedicated herself to nurturing and educating thousands of children. What began with caring for just 20 children
has now grown into a network reaching over 3000 students across Goa. The school follows a creative and child-friendly approach, play way method, experiential learning to make learning engaging and effective. Unlike conventional systems, students are grouped by ability rather than age, ensuring every child learns at their own pace. Julia, along with her team, designed a customized curriculum inspired by global learning practices. The institution is supported by a committed team of teachers, volunteers, and counsellors who work like an extended family. Many students from Shanti Niketan have gone on to build successful careers and independent lives. With a vision to expand further, the school continues to empower children through education, dignity, and hope.
JENIFER LOBO
Jenifer Lobo serves as the Head Teacher at El Shaddai School, Goa, and has been an integral part of the institution since 2004. She began her journey as a pre-primary teacher, stepping into her role as a fresher with dedication and an open heart. From her very first day, the warmth and joy of the children inspired her to become a lifelong part of the El Shaddai family. Her passion for teaching and nurturing young minds helped her grow steadily within the organisation. Over the years, she was promoted to teach higher classes, gaining valuable experience and confidence. With continuous guidance from senior teachers and leadership, she developed both personally and professionally. In 2011, she took on the role of Head Teacher, a milestone that reflects her commitment and hard work. Today, she is also a valued member of the management team, contributing to the school’s vision and growth.
